Most newsletters don’t fail because they’re bad, they fail because they’re forgettable. Another skim, another delete, another “I’ll read this later” that never happens.

That’s where The Assist comes in, not as another news summary machine or corporate trend regurgitator, but as a thoughtful, human-centered newsletter that caters to women on a personal and professional level.

Built for people navigating the ‘messy middle’ of their careers, The Assist doesn’t overwhelm you with so-called breaking news or purposefully divisive hot takes.

Courtesy of The Assist

Instead, it focuses on the stuff that actually comes up at work:

  • How to manage up while being respectful
  • Scripts for what to say in tough conversations
  • How to build leverage at work without burning out

The Assist sits closer to real-life career clarity than to work fads that are quickly replaced by new, shiny topics with no real impact.

In this review, we’ll take a closer look at what The Assist actually delivers, how it’s structured, the core topics this email newsletter covers, and what readers should know before subscribing.

We’re here to help you decide whether The Assist deserves a spot in your inbox alongside the other business newsletters you know and love.

What Is The Assist?

The Assist is a free email newsletter focused on work, careers, leadership, and personal growth, but through a distinctly human lens.

Rather than chasing headlines, it tackles the quieter questions people have about their jobs: How do I advocate for myself? Why does work feel emotionally draining even when I’m “doing well”? What scripts actually help in awkward or high-stakes conversations?

Even after signing up and reading a few issues over the course of writing this piece, it became clear that The Assist invests considerably into topics that they care about. It seemed like many of the topics were related to problems real people face and how to navigate those challenges.

The newsletter is sent four times per week, with each issue loosely themed around different aspects of work and life.

Across the week, readers can expect coverage that spans career growth, leadership dynamics, workplace relationships, wellbeing, productivity, and financial literacy.

Editions have snappy titles like ‘Wellness Wednesday’ and ‘OG Thursday’, giving a loose idea of content themes and helping craft a community.

It’s worth noting that The Assist primarily targets women and other underrepresented professionals in business, from ambitious individual contributors to managers and decision-makers..

While its content is broadly applicable to anyone looking to improve their work/life balance, communicate better, or feel less alone in the professional world, its website proudly states it’s read by over 300,000 women.

Some Assist community members attending an AI-focused workshop!

The Assist speaks primarily to women professionals, but its appeal is broader: smart, practical content for people who are juggling a lot and want better ways to work, think, and manage it all. It’s less “business newsletter,” more “useful, human, and actually worth opening.”

The Structure of The Assist Newsletter

Structurally, The Assist is clean, readable, and intentionally restrained. Each email typically centers around a few core ideas rather than a rapid-fire list of links or headlines.

This makes it feel less like a news digest and more like a guided thought exercise; something you can read in one sitting without constantly recalibrating.

Inspiration For Your Morning

Most issues open with a fun, relatable framing: a workplace scenario, emotional tension, or unspoken frustration that many readers will immediately recognize.

They will also choose to include a bit of positive messaging or inspiration: sometimes, a quote from a well-known figure or a parable.

Practical Advice To Try Today

From there, the newsletter expands into insight, research-backed ideas, or practical advice.

The tone hits that rare sweet spot: smart without being condescending, supportive without being cheesy, and honest without turning everything into a hot take. It does an excellent job straying away from preachy or alarmist language, something that the best newsletters all do.

Unlike many management newsletters or productivity-focused emails that lean heavily on frameworks and jargon, The Assist favors clarity and narrative. When tools or concepts are introduced, they’re explained simply and grounded in real-world applications.

There’s no assumption of background knowledge in every single topic; I certainly appreciated this, given how little I knew about some.

Tools & Templates To Upgrade Your Workflow

Another notable structural choice is the inclusion of scripts – short, practical examples of what to actually say in difficult workplace moments.

These scripts are often the most actionable part of the newsletter and help bridge the gap between theory and practice. Personally, I loved their recent section on phrases to set boundaries with family over the holidays. A genuine lifesaver.

The emails are visually minimal, with formatting that prioritizes scannability without distracting from the content for the sake of flash imagery.

There’s no sense of urgency engineered through subject lines or countdown tactics, which may appeal to readers who already feel overwhelmed by high-frequency business emails littered with CTAs.

Topics in The Assist Newsletter

The Assist covers a wide range of work-related topics, but always through a personal, emotionally intelligent lens. Core topic areas include:

Career Growth Tips on advancement, career leverage, and long-term positioning without hustle culture pressure.
Leadership, Influence, and Managing Up Practical insights into navigating power dynamics, earning trust, and leading without formal authority, making it relevant both for those in positions of power and those seeking to reach them.
Navigating Work as a Woman Honest conversations about gender dynamics, expectations, and unspoken rules make The Assist one of the best newsletters for professional women.
Office Life & Workplace Culture From interpersonal tension to unspoken norms, the newsletter explores how workplaces really function beneath the surface and behind the scenes.
Health and Wellbeing Burnout, emotional regulation, boundaries, and energy management overlap thoughtfully with self-care ideas. The Assist isn’t focused on surface-level wellness tips that aren’t actually that easy to implement in real life.
Salary, Money, and Career Leverage Financial literacy as it relates to work decisions, negotiation, and long-term stability. Practical advice that goes beyond ‘save 20% of your paycheck’.
Personal Productivity & Mental Load Reduction Sustainable productivity concepts that align well with email newsletters for productivity, without pushing rigid systems.
Employee-to-Employee Dynamics Conflict, collaboration, feedback, and social nuance. Advice on handling issues like performance reviews
Scripts for Hard Conversations at Work Clear, practical language for moments many people dread but can’t avoid. One of the biggest differentiators The Assist has to offer.

Pro-Tip: The Assist publishes a ton of their past newsletter content in their Newsletter Archive for readers who want to go back and find a specific issue on their web browser.

Additional Information About The Assist Newsletter

Is It Free or Paid?

The Assist is a completely free email newsletter to subscribe to. There is no paywall, tiered access, or premium upsell required to receive the full newsletter experience.

This makes it an accessible option for readers already subscribed to multiple free email newsletters who are selective about where they invest attention rather than money.

Who Runs The Assist?

The Assist is run by a small, experienced marketing and content team led by Joanna Ericta (Founder), alongside Kristel Alissa, Cameron Huber, and Thania Guardino.

While readers don’t need to know full professional biographies to enjoy their content, it’s clear that the team brings deep experience across content strategy, demand generation, brand storytelling, and B2B/B2C marketing.

Their combined backgrounds show up in the newsletter’s clarity, consistency, and strong editorial judgment.

Notably, the team’s collective experience across career development, leadership communication, and emotional intelligence lends credibility to the advice – especially compared to more generic career newsletters that recycle surface-level tips. This is a case where the authorship has genuine insights and tips for its target audience.

The Assist Newsletter Reviews: What Do Readers Think?

Public responses around The Assist tend to highlight its tone and relevance rather than the sheer volume of information.

Readers often describe it as validating, practical, and refreshingly honest; particularly when compared to newsletters that prioritize growth hacks or trend summaries. There’s a clear preference for reader value over clickbait engagement.

The Assist is frequently appreciated for addressing topics people feel but rarely hear articulated at work. Rather than telling readers how they should feel about their careers, it reflects how many already do, helping build long-term trust and rapport with their dedicated readership.

That said, readers who prefer fast-paced business news or link-heavy formats may find The Assist slower or more reflective than expected. It’s not designed to replace business news roundups or newsletters like The Skimm, but rather to complement them.

My Honest Review of The Assist Newsletter

The Assist stands out as a quietly confident addition to the professional newsletter landscape.

It really excels at providing information that’s genuinely useful for its target audience, and won’t compromise quality for the sake of putting content out.

Pros

  • Thoughtful, emotionally intelligent content that feels genuinely useful
  • Clear writing and strong editorial focus
  • Practical scripts and responses grounded in real scenarios
  • Free and accessible
  • Especially valuable for readers navigating leadership, growth, or transition
  • Nice and easily recognizable themes for each newsletter

Cons

  • May feel too reflective for readers seeking fast news or tactical frameworks
  • Not industry-specific, which may limit appeal for niche professionals
  • Four emails per week could feel frequent for minimal-inbox readers

Overall, The Assist excels at something many newsletters struggle with: respecting the reader’s intelligence and emotional bandwidth. It doesn’t promise transformation overnight. Instead, it offers perspective, language, and reassurance.

Pro-Tip: If four emails seem like a lot to start, you can edit your subscriber preferences around which emails you’d like to receive and can always ramp up once you are a dedicated reader.

Conclusion

If you’re looking for a newsletter that treats work as a human experience rather than a performance metric, The Assist is well worth subscribing to.

It probably won’t replace every newsletter in your inbox. But it’s the one you’ll actually read, and maybe even forward. Truly a bright spot in your inbox.

Most people do not get excited about workplace compliance training. I get it.

You’re typically forced into dealing with long modules, flat delivery, and a check-the-box mentality. But the stakes are much higher than that.

In FY 2024 alone, the EEOC received 88,531 new discrimination charges, which makes it clear that workplace risk is active, ongoing, and expensive when organizations get it wrong. That is why, when tasked with sifting through best-in-class workplace compliance solutions, I was curious to dig into Traliant.

For SnackNation, I look into tools that help companies operate better and build healthier workplaces. Traliant stood out as a platform trying to make compliance training more practical and more watchable.

So what about me? Why am I doing this exactly? 🤔

Connor-Judson-Garrett-HeadshotMy name is Connor Garrett. I’ve run my own businesses, been an employee, and written about HR topics like employee engagement and professional development for half a decade.

What Is Workplace Compliance and Why Is It Important?

Workplace compliance is often framed as a legal obligation. I think that framing is part of the problem. When companies treat compliance as a box to check, employees tend to treat it the same way. And that approach is clearly not working.

In fiscal year 2024, retaliation was also the most frequently filed charge with the EEOC for the 17th consecutive year, totaling 42,301 charges. That is not a sign of a workplace issue that has been solved by annual slide decks and forgettable training modules. It is a sign that many organizations still need compliance programs that people actually absorb.

To me, workplace compliance should be viewed less as bureaucratic maintenance and more as behavioral risk prevention.

Yes, it includes the expected categories like harassment prevention, workplace violence, employment law, ethics, cybersecurity, and data privacy.

But at its core, it is about helping people recognize problems earlier, respond better, and reduce harm before it escalates. That is where a platform like Traliant stood out to me.

Instead of relying on stale, one-size-fits-all modules, it leans into story-based training and interactive scenarios that feel closer to real life. And honestly, that makes sense: people are far more likely to remember what feels real than what feels mandatory.

Who Is Traliant For?

Traliant is best suited for organizations that need to manage compliance training across multiple teams, locations, or jurisdictions.

I see the clearest fit for HR leaders, compliance teams, and IT departments responsible for keeping training current as laws evolve. That seems especially relevant for mid-size to enterprise companies with growing teams and more complex compliance needs.

Some notable examples:

Pros and Cons

Like most platforms, Traliant brings a number of strengths along with a few considerations depending on your organization’s needs.

Pros

✅ One of the biggest advantages I noticed is the platform’s story-based training approach.

✅ Rather than relying on slides or lectures, the courses use cinematic scenarios and interactive elements that feel closer to real workplace situations. In my experience, this type of format tends to hold attention much better than traditional compliance modules.

✅ Another standout feature is Traliant’s in-house legal expertise. Because employment laws and regulations frequently change, having legal professionals involved in course development helps ensure that training remains accurate and up to date. Cons

❗ Organizations implementing a new compliance platform should plan for a thoughtful rollout strategy. Even the best training programs require internal communication and leadership support to ensure employees understand why the training matters.

❗ Companies with very small teams or minimal compliance requirements may not need the full scope of features offered by a comprehensive platform like Traliant.

Company Spotlight: Sigma Defense Energy

“We went through a process of looking at a few different vendors, but I knew in my heart that I wanted Traliant because of the partnership that I had and the quality of the content.”

My Methodology

When I evaluate workplace tools, I try to look at them from both sides of the experience: the people managing the training and the employees actually taking it.

For this review, I focused on a few core areas:

✅ the breadth of training topics

✅ the legal accuracy of the content

✅ the learning experience for employees

✅ the platform’s ability to make administration easier for HR teams

I also looked at whether the training felt engaging enough to encourage real participation rather than just another box-checking exercise. Reporting dashboards, customization options, and added compliance tools all mattered here too.

Ultimately, I wanted to see whether Traliant could help organizations build a compliance program that feels more practical, effective, and usable in the real world.

My Review

After reviewing Traliant’s training solutions and platform capabilities, my overall impression is that the company is trying to solve one of the biggest problems in workplace compliance: engagement.

Too often, compliance training feels disconnected from everyday work experiences. Employees click through modules quickly, retain very little information, and treat the training as an obligation rather than something that could actually help them navigate real situations.

1⃣ Traliant approaches the problem differently. Its training programs emphasize realistic scenarios, interactive storytelling, and short learning formats designed to keep employees involved. This approach has the potential to make compliance training more memorable and impactful.

2⃣ Another area where the platform stands out is its broader compliance ecosystem. Beyond training courses, Traliant offers additional tools such as phishing simulations, policy and handbook support, and analytics that help organizations track participation and identify potential risk areas.

3⃣ The platform’s coverage across topics like harassment prevention, workplace violence preparedness, employment law fundamentals, inclusive workplace practices, and cybersecurity awareness also makes it possible for companies to manage multiple compliance needs within a single system.

Overall, I see Traliant as a strong option for organizations that want compliance training to feel relevant, modern, and aligned with real workplace challenges.

For HR and compliance leaders looking to move beyond checkbox training and create programs employees actually pay attention to, the platform offers a thoughtful and comprehensive approach.

Office collaboration has changed fast. And no, it’s not going back to endless email threads and whiteboard meetings!

AI and automation are now part of how teams communicate and collaborate almost every day.

By 2026, the smartest teams won’t be the busiest ones, but the ones using the right tools to work better, not longer.

AI Team Collaboration

Don’t worry! This blog post shares what it takes to build a smart team in 2026.

Read on to learn how to use AI and automation to improve your office collaboration.

How Office Collaboration Has Evolved

Office collaboration has officially outgrown desks and meeting rooms. Teams now work across time zones and devices, which means flexibility isn’t a perk but the baseline.

If your tools can’t support digital and hybrid work, effective communication and collaboration slow down fast.

Email, chat apps, file-sharing tools, and video calls laid the springboard for modern teamwork, but they also created endless coordination and follow-ups.

The next shift came when cloud platforms and APIs linked these tools into shared workflows, making cross-functional team collaboration more seamless.

AI and automation are now the final layers, adding intelligence to those connected workflows.

With these in place, collaboration tools can surface data insights as well as support better real-time decisions. Take it from Tom Rockwell, CEO of Concrete Tools Direct, who’s investing in software automation and AI tools for team collaboration.

Tom-Rockwell-Concrete-Tools-Direct“We use automation and AI to keep everyone synchronized without slowing work down. It helps our team relay updates and manage handoffs, ultimately giving our stakeholders clear visibility.

That added context makes collaboration faster and decisions better.”

How Smart Teams Use AI and Automation for Office Collaboration

Who says AI and automation aren’t replacing teams?

They’re actually helping teams work smarter. AI handles context and decision-making, while automation keeps work moving without constant manual input. Together, they help improve team collaboration and performance!

AI: Doing the thinking faster

Smart teams invest in modern technologies and hire AI integration services. Why? AI can handle the “thinking faster” part of collaboration, helping teams stay coordinated and reduce back-and-forth. Ultimately, it allows them to move projects forward without losing context.

Common uses:

  • Meeting summaries and key takeaways
  • Drafting plans and proposals in emails or other content
  • Tracking tasks and ownership
  • Analyzing feedback and performance shifts
  • Translating content for global teams

 3  ClickUp

Automation: Keeping Work Moving

Automation handles the routine work. It keeps workflows running smoothly and lowers manual effort.

online collaboration

This makes sure nothing stalls because someone forgot to follow up. That’s why smart teams invest in office management tools powered by automation.

Business functions:

  • Real-time data entry and system syncing
  • Faster invoice and expense approvals
  • Streamlined approvals and task handoffs
  • Automatic CRM updates and activity tracking
  • Deadline alerts and smart notifications

Common tools:

RPA tools

RPA uses software bots to handle repeatable tasks like moving data between systems, with no thinking required. It’s best for speed and consistency, with tools like UiPath, Automation Anywhere, Blue Prism, and Microsoft Power Automate leading the way.

Workflow automation platforms

These tools connect apps and processes, so workflows end-to-end without manual handoffs. They’re great for keeping teams and systems in sync, using tools such as Zapier, Make, Workato, and Tray.io.

No-code builders

These platforms let non-developers create automations without writing a single line of code. Tools like Airtable, Notion, Bubble, and Webflow help teams move faster without waiting on engineering.

How To Build a Smart, Collaborative Team with AI and Automation

Smart collaboration isn’t about replacing people. It’s about removing friction and freeing teams to focus on what matters. Ultimately, it’s about improving communication and collaboration for improved performance and business success.

As a good office manager or leader, here’s what you can do:

Find repetitive, time-consuming work. Manual, rule-based tasks are perfect for automation because they eat up time and slow down workflow. If a task is repetitive and predictable, automating it removes a bottleneck and keeps the team moving.

Start small with willing teams. Pick teams that are already open to change and keen to test new tools. Early wins from these groups create internal momentum and build confidence across the organization.

Set rules and human review points. Define what AI can handle and where humans need to step in to approve the output. Clear boundaries reduce errors and bias, as well as keep quality consistent.

Pick tools that fit the present workflows. Choose the best online collaboration tools that integrate with your current systems, so teams don’t have to reinvent how they work. The best tools reduce friction, not add it.

Train teams on AI use and automation. Training is essential for responsible and effective use. The goal is to make AI feel like a helpful teammate, not a confusing mystery.

Track results and employee feedback. Measure time saved plus errors avoided, not to mention team sentiment, to understand the real AI impact. These understandings help you strategically improve and expand automation.

Share wins and scale slowly. Celebrate early successes with fun office activities, but scale gradually to avoid burnout and resistance. A fun way to reward teams is to offer a custom t-shirt collection because nothing says “we nailed it” like matching gear. It keeps momentum going and builds team pride, turning early wins into long-term adoption.

Pros and Cons of AI-Powered and Automated Office Collaboration

AI and automation can speed up workplace collaboration. However, they also bring new risks and change how teams operate. The key is using them to enhance human work, not replace it. That way, collaboration stays smarter, not just faster.

Key Benefits

Efficient collaboration: AI and automation turn “who’s doing what?” into “done,” so teams move faster without the chaos.

Better data-backed decisions: AI turns data into “aha” moments, so you can stop guessing and start winning.

Ensured time and cost savings: Less manual work means fewer emails (or mistakes) and more time for real work (or coffee).

More room for creative work: AI and automation become morale boosters. When routine tasks vanish, your team gets to do the stuff that actually matters (strategy and creativity).

Improved work-life balance: With less busywork, burnout drops…and your life gets its calendar back!

Common Challenges

Job security concerns: When automation takes over the repetitive work, people worry that the robot is eyeing their desk next.

AI mistakes and limitations: AI can be brilliant…until it confidently makes something up. Human oversight is still the safety net.

Data security risks: More automation means more data moving around…and more chances for something sensitive to fall through the cracks.

Bias and quality control: AI is only as good as what it’s trained on. So, biased or messy results can sneak in if no one’s watching.

Training and adoption gaps: If teams don’t know how to use AI tools properly, they won’t reap the benefits… just more confusion.

Learn from Wang Dong, Founder of Vanswe Fitness. Dong says, “AI and automation have changed the way we sell fitness gear and equipment.” But when doing so, he first weighs the pros and cons of investing in these tools for his business.

“We use automation to handle order updates and inventory alerts, and AI to analyze search trends for items like adjustable dumbbells and resistance bands, so we can stock what customers actually want. The trick is balancing speed with oversight, because the tools are only as good as the people using them.”

— Wang Dong, Founder of Vanswe Fitness

Final Thoughts

Smart teams don’t use AI to replace people; They use it to remove the busywork that slows people down. When routine tasks disappear, teams have more space for strategy and creativity, ultimately making better decisions.

The real win is finding the sweet spot where human decision-making and AI work together. This helps teams move faster and stay competitive as work remains evolving.

1) Celebrate Employee Appreciation Week (March 2nd – March 6th)

One week. Endless ways to show you care.

Employee Appreciation Week

Turn Employee Appreciation Week into a full-on celebration with personalized shoutouts, surprise gifts, and fun virtual activities.

Fill your week full of different remote staff appreciation ideas that can include sending a curated care package, spotlighting top performers, or hosting an appreciation town hall! A little recognition goes a long way, and a whole week of it? Game changer.

Why they’ll love this: Employees get real, public recognition for their hard work while also enjoying unexpected perks and rewards. Feeling seen and valued keeps engagement high.

How to implement this virtual appreciation idea: Start by planning small daily moments of appreciation—teamwide Slack shoutouts, surprise gifts, or virtual happy hours.

Without an office, sometimes it’s hard for remote employees to feel like part of the team.

You can show your appreciation and make your virtual worker feel included with a work from home care package sent to their home. Whether it contains tasty treats, useful tech, or some wellness-focused items like candles and soaps, a WFH Care Package will elevate their virtual work experience and make them feel appreciated.

Why they’ll love this: Useful items that appear on their doorstep will feel like a breakroom in a box.

How to implement this virtual appreciation idea: Use a gifting service to simplify sending care packages and ensure your employees are getting the best products and services.

3) Give Them A Work-From-Home Office Stipend

Turn their home office into the dream workstation with a home office stipend.

21 Fabulous Home Office Ideas To Cover Every Type Of Setup

Employees who go into the office have their own workstation, somewhere comfortable that puts them in the right mindset for the work day. Unfortunately, most work-from-home employees don’t have that luxury. Some are jammed in the kitchen to get out the way or sitting at the same small desk they’ve used since college.

Show you appreciate your remote employees and allow them to upgrade their home office! A stipend to get a nicer chair, some tasteful organizers, or a brand-new desk will upgrade their home office (which will, in turn, increase their output).

Why they’ll love this: A nicer home office will create a happier employee. This is a great employee appreciation day idea for remote employees!

How to implement this virtual appreciation idea: Not sure how to budget for this personal expense? You can use an employee reward tool to streamline and improve your company’s toolset.

These programs allow you to send a personalized note along with points that can be used to buy tech, treats, company swag, charitable donations, or special activities! With redeemable points, your employee gets to choose how they want to be rewarded.

Why they’ll love this: A note and the ability to choose their own reward is an excellent recognition idea for virtual teams and the best of both worlds, giving your employee freedom while retaining a personal touch.

Work Anniversary

Recognizing birthdays, work anniversaries, and other significant life milestones can enhance the workplace atmosphere.

These gestures go beyond acknowledging employees solely for their work output — they also demonstrate that individuals are valued and appreciated on a personal and professional level. Why they’ll love this: Employees genuinely appreciate these efforts as they feel seen and celebrated as individuals, reinforcing their connection and loyalty to the organization.

Let old school enter your modern office with a handwritten appreciation letter.

handwritten-letter

A letter? In the mail? Is this the 1930s?

While old-fashioned, a handwritten letter mailed to their door can be the most thoughtful way to celebrate and appreciate your remote employee. You can use this note as a space to say the exact appreciation words you think your remote employee needs to hear.

An epistolary thank you will add a personal touch that’s often missing from online correspondence and will prove to your employee that you care about their hard work.

Why they’ll love this: A handwritten letter works as a nice surprise and a physical testament to how much you appreciate their efforts.

How to implement this virtual appreciation idea: Find the perfect letter card for your note—whether it has the company’s logo or is chosen with this specific employee in mind.

12) Welcome Remote Employees To The Office

Out of sight shouldn’t mean out of mind.

Remote employees put in the same hard work as in-office teams—but without spontaneous high-fives, lunch outings, or casual praise. Go beyond the usual emails and make sure they feel seen, valued, and appreciated.

Host remote-only appreciation events, surprise them with personalized gifts, or give them shoutouts in all-hands meetings. Small gestures like these reinforce that their contributions matter, no matter where they work.

Why they’ll love this: Feeling appreciated boosts morale, loyalty, and engagement. A thoughtful touch can turn a normal workday into a reminder that their efforts don’t go unnoticed.

13) Send Them Treats!

Show your taste by appreciating your employees with a surprise box of treats.

Goody-Zac's Sweet-Shop

While your remote worker doesn’t get to enjoy the plunder of the break room, they can still see how much they’re valued if you send some snacks, dessert, or drinks to their house. You can even find out what their favorite foods are to guarantee they are receiving snacks they’ll want and love.

Why they’ll love this: It’s scientifically proven that snacks make people happy, so cheer up your remote worker with something to munch on during or after work.

How to implement this virtual appreciation idea: Use a gifting service like Goody to send tasty (and healthy) treats right to their door.

14) Send Them On A Special Experience

Why they’ll love this: A surprise card in their inbox with a slew of nice messages will show your remote employee they’re valued, no matter what the occasion is!

How to implement this virtual recognition idea: Use a digital e-card service like Kudoboard to send well-crafted cards with ease.

This virtual employee appreciation idea can utilize the time off for a mental health staycation or a little adventure, your employees will appreciate the office more for the chance to be away from it for a little bit. They’ll return refreshed and engaged.

Social media could be the missing link in your office’s culture of appreciation.

Social media has become a mainstay of our current culture. Why not use it to show your employee they’re appreciated by making a LinkedIn shout-out on their wall?

A personalized message for their whole network to see will not only help them with their future career, it’ll make them feel like an important part of your team. Plus, other team members (or past employers) can engage with the post to add more positivity to their day.

Regardless if you choose to send a special dog treat, a fun cat toy, or a new castle for their goldfish tank, a present for their pet will be a present for your employee. Giving such a specific gift, shows you know what they value and that you actually care about their interests.

22) Plan A Virtual Team Celebration

Expert Advice & Useful Tips To Celebrate Virtual Employee Appreciation Day

Tip #1: 🖥 Do Your Research

Since Employee Appreciation Day is always the first Friday in March, you have plenty of time to plan ahead and determine how you would like to celebrate with your distributed team.

Engaging with hybrid and remote employees can be difficult, so conducting your research ahead of time will set you up for success well before the big day.

Tip #2: 💫 Determine the Scope of Your Appreciation

Are you looking to plan an event for the entire office? Or are you hoping to plan a more team-centric activity or gift for a particular team or department?

Understanding the scope of your plan will make sure that you have everyone covered when it comes to appreciating your peers. Managers and C-level executives might require a different type of recognition than other employees — so keep this in mind when putting together your employee appreciation day strategy.

Tip #3: 🏖 Consider a Half-day at Work

Kick off the weekend early with a half-day to reward employees with some extra time off, where they can complete their work, relax, and spend some extra weekend time with family, friends, or coworkers.

You can even consider an early Happy Hour to start the weekend early if you live in the same city as your remote employees. Just don’t force your employees to show up if they want to spend their afternoon doing their own thing.

This is a great idea to celebrate Employee Appreciation Day since it lands on a Friday and is perfectly set up to take the afternoon off.

Tip #4: 🤝 Work with management to establish a budget

For practical planning purposes and to ensure you’re staying well within company resources, work with management to establish a budget beforehand.

You can opt for a percentage of payroll or allocate a fixed budget per employee per annum. In terms of percentage, these can vary, but assume 1% of payroll as the base minimum. Look at a range of $50 to $200 on average for a per-employee per annum figure.

Again, these numbers are not set in stone and can depend on your specific type of business, the industry, general trends, and various other factors.

Tip #5: ✅ Make it genuine

However, if you decide to celebrate Virtual Employee Appreciation Day, ensure your efforts are genuine and sincere.

Employees can smell disingenuous attempts at checking off an engagement task from the list, which defeats the purpose of the exercise. Instead, plan ahead by getting buy-in from your employees, carrying out surveys to learn how employees would like to celebrate, and then following through with them.

If your idea is not executed well, it can hurt employees. Plan and follow through with foresight, so your idea clicks well with your team members.

Why is it important for employee recognition apps to integrate with Slack?

Employee recognition apps that can integrate with Slack afford teams seamless communication, recognition, and appreciation. Most employees are familiar with Slack, so this also reduces the learning curve and makes it a whole lot easier to get company-wide buy-in to whatever new software solution you are getting ready to integrate.

As a byproduct, employee recognition apps keep everyone engaged and involved right from the jump. That being said, there are plenty of other reasons to start using Slack employee recognition apps and integrations, including:

✅ Improved tracking and reporting – Slack recognition apps assist managers in tracking and reporting on rewards and recognition. Instead of guessing if your recognition program is working, these apps will break down the answer to that question empirically.

✅ Increased convenience – Employees can reward and recognize their coworkers without hopping from one tool to another as long as they have a robust, all-in-one app to use.

✅ Better engagement – Recognizing and rewarding employees and coworkers has been shown to massively boost motivation, engagement, and productivity. This category of apps is the ultimate way to tap into team-wide engagement.

What Common Features Do Slack Employee Recognition Integrations Have?

Customization — Every organization has different goals, so the best Slack employee recognition integrations need to have at least a decent amount of customizability.

Integration and interoperability — It is vital that the Slack recognition app fits in with the current programs you use. For example, can the app leverage the performance management and payroll software your employees are already familiar with?

Recognition Catalog — Because employee preferences are extremely variable, it’s best if the app provides a diverse menu of recognition and reward options for them to choose from.

Reporting & Analytics — Detailed data about employee recognition will give you all the information you need to make smart decisions about how to optimize your recognition program.

User-friendliness — Is the app navigable and easy for employees (especially new hires) to quickly get a grip on how to sort through it?

Gamification — The employee recognition integration should help to make sure that employees absolutely love using it, so that it becomes second nature and a go-to part of their day-to-day routine.

Communication — These culture-building apps work optimally when users get notifications on Slack and email. After all, recognition begins with communication, so you can’t afford to have unseen messages.

Social Media — Slack employee recognition integrations need to encourage recognition to extend beyond the internal sphere of the company. Recognition can be doled out on LinkedIn and other places to amplify the celebration.

Mobile compatibility —  Whatever employee recognition and rewards Slack integration you choose needs to be mobile-friendly and compatible with mobile devices because employees themselves are living increasingly mobile lives, even during work hours.

Social Cause — Especially for environmentally and socially conscious companies, supporting a cause is possible through a recognition app. The key is to find one that has a built-in social cause as a part of its mission.

47. 15Five

Three decades ago, ESPRIT founder Doug Tompkin had an epiphany: if he asked all of his employees to spend just 15 minutes writing a report that took their managers no more than 5 minutes to read, he could increase transparency and engagement and solve minor problems before they became full-blown disasters.

15five CEO David Hassell found this concept so inspiring, he developed software to systematize and scale the practice. The result is 15five, a framework that facilitates a conversation between executives, managers, and their direct reports and helps surface problems so that team members can develop solutions and increase productivity.

Why we love it: 15five creates a feedback loop that most likely wouldn’t happen any other way and certainly not as efficiently. How the Right MSP Can Improve Your Business

Connecting with the best MSP team for your business can improve your operations in numerous ways. I highly recommend getting outsourced IT support if you want to enjoy benefits like:

  • Continual data backup and disaster recovery response plans in case of emergencies.
  • IT strategy planning to help your network scale with your business during growth periods.
  • Flexible cloud service arrangements that optimize digital storage and security.
  • Cybersecurity measures like email filtering and antivirus programs that protect your business from many types of cyberthreats.
  • A dedicated help desk team that can solve tickets whenever your employees face technical issues.
  • 24/7 monitoring of your network to prevent downtime and get your systems running quickly after emergencies.

Having a strong network and robust cybersecurity measures in place is essential in today’s digital world. Once you start comparing IT MSP pricing, we know you’ll feel confident reaching out to providers for information specific to your business.

Regional and Industry Considerations for MSPs

Finding an outsourced technical team close to your business is important for many reasons. Let’s break them down so you feel confident while comparing IT MSP companies.

Proximity for On-Site Support

You might not think you need a local IT team if they’re monitoring your firewalls remotely, but that’s not all they do. IT MSP providers can also visit if you need hardware assistance.

They provide rapid emergency response for server failures or outages during critical periods. Although they might try to solve some issues remotely, having your tech team close enough to visit ensures that there’s no emergency they can’t handle.

Availability in the Same Time Zone

Working with IT experts in your city or state means that they’re available during your business hours. If you work with an MSP provider in a different time zone, you may not have the immediate infrastructure monitoring or response time frame you need during emergencies.

They’ll also understand the nuances of local infrastructure setups, which could impact things like your network reliability.

An Understanding of Local IT Threats

Your location changes the potential physical and digital threats to your business. I know it’s easy to assume that all cyberattacks start as spam email links, but they aren’t the only things that can change your IT setup.

You may also encounter local weather events that disrupt your network or government regulations that alter how you must protect your customers’ data.

An experienced tech team close to your business will stay up to date with local changes that could affect your IT service continuity.

You’ll also receive clarification on issues that seem regional but affect everyone. Without tech support, you might not be aware that the California Consumer Privacy Act protects California residents from data collection practices and requires those protections from companies outside the state, too.

Your MSP team will update your website to remain in compliance with technical topics we might otherwise find confusing.

Practice With Industry-Specific Regulatory Compliance

Practice With Industry-Specific Regulatory Compliance

We highly recommend working with an MSP provider that has experience with your specific industry. If you operate a family-owned pharmacy, you’ll want an IT team that understands national health care regulations regarding sensitive patient information.

Double-check that any potential local IT team has experience in your industry so you get the exact services you need to remain operational and in compliance.

Tips for Selecting the Best MSP Provider

When you’re ready to start comparing IT MSP companies, remember some straightforward strategies. We wouldn’t want any small-business owner signing up for digital services without understanding exactly what they’re getting.

Inquire About Their Industry Experience

Schedule consultation calls with MSP teams and ask if they’ve worked with businesses like yours before.

The best IT managed service providers will discuss how they’ve addressed IT threats that are most likely to affect your company.

If you find a team that understands which software applications are most critical to protecting your daily operations, you’ll know you’ve found a great candidate.

Read Their Service Level Agreements

Service level agreements (SLAs) are part of standard contracts with an IT MSP business. The wording defines the exact standards of service you’ll receive for your payment arrangement.

Ask how local MSP teams define their SLAs, including how they measure their response time guarantees and ensure resolution timelines. If they can’t get specific about those services, they may not have the expertise you need to maximize your network protection.

Ask for Detailed IT Strategy Explanations

Some IT MSP experts take the time to explain their security strategies to potential clients.

They understand that you need to know how they’ll monitor your network, protect your data and support your operations. They could also point out details like how often they back up their clients’ data and the security solutions in those locations.

Their answers will show if your data would be safe from encryption and corruption attacks by cybercriminals seeking things like ransom payments.

Take notes on their answers to compare the results of your consultation calls. IT teams that go into more detailed strategy explanations will prove that they know what they’re doing.

You’ll also see that they have the customer service skills necessary to explain tech topics in ways you easily understand, which is essential during emergencies.

Clarify Service and Pricing Models

I remember feeling confused the first time I saw MSP pricing outlined. You shouldn’t pay for anything you don’t understand, even if you don’t consider yourself a tech-focused person.

Feel free to ask for clarification about pricing models like per-user arrangements or flat-rate, all-inclusive fees.

Will you get after-hours support for your financial commitment or on-site visits for hardware issues? The answers will narrow your options, especially if you can get service and pricing models outlined in writing.

Check Their Reviews

Customer reviews are powerful tools.

Once you have a few MSP providers in mind, read the reviews on their services pages and other websites to get real-time examples of what you could experience as their newest client.

See if your preferred companies have excellent people skills, provide services with a friendly approach and have a calm, experienced demeanor during emergencies.

You might also see people talking about how potential MSP companies have provided reliable pricing over the years. Glowing reviews will increase your confidence when it’s time to choose your IT MSP provider.

How To Compare IT MSP Providers With Confidence

Take your time while browsing IT MSP companies. They have various services for different pricing arrangements, so consider what you need for your business.

Create a list of questions so you feel prepared for consultation calls. Look for a friendly, approachable team that takes its time making you feel comfortable about outsourced IT services.

When that happens, you won’t have any doubts when signing up for a service arrangement that will better protect your company in the digital world.
